Max Scherzer set a Washington Nationals record with 16 strikeouts, tossing a complete-game 4-0 shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Sunday.

Scherzer took a perfect game into the seventh inning before Carlos Gomez broke it up with a broken bat looping single to right.

Scooter Gennett was the only other Brewers’ base runner, coaxing a walk from Scherzer in the 8th inning.

The Brewers were shutout for the 8th time this season.  Only the San Diego Padres have been shutout more times (10) this season.

Taylor Jungmann took the loss, scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs in five innings.  He walked two and struck out five.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Jungmann will get another start moving forward.

The Brewers open a 2-game home series against the Kansas City Royals tonight at Miller Park.
