Brewers drop third straight, fall to Giants

The Milwaukee Brewers ended a 2-game scoreless streak, but fell short against the San Francisco Giants 4-2 at AT&T Park on Monday night.

Rookie right-hander Chris Heston pitched seven strong innings and Brandon Crawford clubbed a two-run home run in the fourth off of Kyle Lohse to lead the Giants.

Milwaukee fell to 1-4 on their current 7-game west coast road trip, while the Giants have won 12 of their last 13 games to move within a half game of the Dodgers for first place atop the National League West.

Heston is 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA in his previous six starts.  He threw the first of three no-hitters in the major leagues this season, back on June 9 against the New York Mets.

The Brewers finally scored in the sixth inning when Jonathan Lucroy doubled to drive in Gerardo Parra.  It gave the Brewers their first run in 23 innings.  Lucroy then scored on a Khris Davis single to right center.

Kyle Lohse (5-12) took the loss, but worked 6 2/3 innings in his longest outing since pitching 8 innings against the New York Mets back on May 15.

Carlos Gomez was ruled to be safe on a stolen base attempt in the 9th, but the Giants challenged and the ruling was reversed.  Gomez tossed his helmet in frustration and was ejected.  Craig Counsell was then ejected for the first time as a player or a coach when he came out to stick up for Gomez.

Wily Peralta, who missed two months with an oblique injury, is returning tonight to pitch for the Brewers.  He is 1-5 on the season with a 4.00 ERA.
