Milwaukee Police investigate possible lion sightings

Amateur video shows what some believe is a lion wandering in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Police continue to investigate reports that a lion was spotted in the city this week.

The Department received a report on Monday from a woman claiming to have seen a lion, along with a cell phone picture of what Police Chief Ed Flynn called a “lionish” creature. Flynn said officers searched the area for the animal without success, and have yet to confirm a lion is present in the area. “We haven’t found it, we haven’t seen it…but we’ll keep looking.”

Amateur video released Wednesday also appears to show a large cat walking along a street.

Flynn said the zoo has confirmed it is not missing any lions, and noted there are many possible ways it could have ended up in the city. He said “it’s certainly conceivable something may have wandered down here from up state, following the deer population.”

Flynn says his officers and the DNR are working together to investigate. Police are urging anyone who spots the animal to contact authorities, but they should not try to capture it.
