Lefty Brandon Finnegan, acquired as part of the trade for Johnny Cueto earlier this season, was making his first major-league start.
Davies would run into problems again in the fourth, serving up a home run to Jay Bruce, his 31st of the season. The Reds took a 3-1 lead.
