Eau Claire high school band director dies in car crash

September 21, 2015 By WRN Contributor

Counselors are on hand today for students and staff at Eau Claire Memorial High School, following a weekend crash that claimed the life of a band director at the school.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department says Gene Power was killed Saturday night after his car hit a tree in the Township of Burnett. Deputies say Powers’ car veered into a gravel shoulder, hit a culvert, then hit a tree. The crash is under investigation, but alcohol and speed are believed to have been factors.

Power had joined the staff at Eau Claire Memorial this year, but had previously worked at the city’s other public high school. He was a 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
