Jason Heyward clubbed a two-run homer in the 10th inning to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.  Heyward’s decisive homer came off Tyler Thornburg, who falls to 0-2 on the season.  Heyward also doubled twice in the win.

The loss for the Brewers is their 82nd of the season, which guaranteed a losing season.

The Brewers only run came on a Khris Davis home run.  He has now homered in back-to-back games and in four of his last eight.

Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez struck out nine in eight innings.  Kevin Siegrist pitched the ninth for the win.  Trevor Rosenthal pitched the tenth for his 44th save.

Brewers starter Ariel Pena, making his third major-league appearance and second start, gave up a run on four hits but wasn’t involved in the decision.

The Brewers have now lost four straight to the Cardinals, and they’ve only won ten of their last 36 home contests against the Cardinals.
