A Kenosha woman accused of taking the lives of her two small children Saturday kept a log of what she was doing, but police say they still don’t really know why. Lucia Hernandez Alvarez is accused in the deaths of the children, ages 1 and 3, early Saturday morning.

Police were called to a Kenosha home when the father of the children, who were 1 and 3 years old, came home to find them dead and their mother suffering from significant self-inflicted stab wounds. At a news conference Sunday, Police Chief John Morrissey said the log or journal contained a detailed description of what happened early Saturday morning.

Morrissey said the woman indicated that her relationship with the children’s father was troubled, and the journal apparently was meant to tell police what happened. The woman also sent a package to her sister outlining her plan, which didn’t arrive at its destination until after the children died.

Morrissey said his department is recommending she be charged with two counts of homicide. Hernandez Alvaraz is due in court Monday for bond hearing.
