The Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team was convinced they could hang with #1 North Dakota going into Friday nights series opener. The Badgers did more than hang, they upset college hockey’s top ranked team, 3-1 at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.
It was the home opener for North Dakota and the home team opened the scoring on a Luke Johnson goal 7:31 into the game.
That goal would be the only one allowed by Wisconsin’s freshman goaltender matt Jurusik, who earned his third straight victory. He finished with 29 saves.
Corbin McGuire tied the game in the first period for the Badgers, scoring with 9:27 left in the first period. The Badgers also got goals from Luke Kunin and Jedd Soleway.
The two teams wrap up the series in Grand Forks tonight.
