Ryan responds to Paris attacks

November 16, 2015 By Bob Hague

Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan of Janesville, is busy ensuring Congress is up-to-date on any terror threat to the U.S. after Friday’s attacks in France. “We don’t have all the facts,” Ryan said, adding that he’d asked the intelligence community to brief members as they returned to Washington on Monday.

“We need to see how this attack unfolded, and make sure that we have every resource put in place to prevent it from happening here,” Ryan said.

Ryan said he’s also instructed the intelligence, defense, immigration, and appropriation committees to put together a list of options regarding the question of Syrian immigration. He expects that work to be finished this week.

The congressman said President Barack Obama has a containment policy for ISIS but not a strategy for defeating the terrorist group. “It is so much better to fight them there, than over here,” he said. “This started in the Middle East, it’s now moved to Europe. We’ve got to prevent it from coming here.”
