After securing two straight WCHA Defensive Player of the Week awards, Wisconsin women’s hockey goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Month.
The Badgers (10-0-0, 8-0-0-0) recorded eight straight shutouts in their first ten games, the longest streak in NCAA men’s or women’s hockey, thanks in large part to Desbiens’ NCAA-leading seven shutouts.
The Quebec native has a goals-against average (0.23) and save percentage (.985) are the best of all NCAA goalies with more than one start, as well as being one of only three goaltenders to hold a perfect winning percentage.
Desbiens has not allowed a goal in the last 440 minutes and 52 seconds, which is the second-longest streak in NCAA men’s or women’s hockey. Only former UW goaltender Jessie Vetter has a longer streak, recording 448:32 shutout minutes in the 2006-07 season.
