Netflix releases trailer for Steven Avery documentary

December 11, 2015 By WRN Contributor

With the premiere of a documentary series a week away, Netflix has released a trailer for its 10-part documentary on infamous Wisconsin killer Steven Avery. Avery was convicted of party to first-degree intentional homicide in 2007, for the Halloween 2005 death of 25-year-old freelance photographer Teresa Halbach.

Hallbach’s murder occurred two years after Avery was released from prison, for a rape he didn’t commit. He spent 19 years behind bars before he was exonerated by DNA tests.

Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, were convicted of killing Halbach at the Avery family salvage yard outside Manitowoc, where she had gone to take pictures of a vehicle that they wanted to sell. Her remains were found in a fire pit near Avery’s trailer. In 2011, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals affirmed Avery’s conviction, as well as a circuit court order denying his request for a new trial in the death of Hallbach. Avery is currently serving a life sentence, without the possibility of parole, for Halbach’s death.

The Netflix series “Making a Murderer” will be available on the streaming service next Friday, December 18.
