Schobert named Big Ten Linebacker of the Year

Wisconsin Badger linebacker Joe Schobert was named the Big Ten’s top linebacker on Monday.

The former walk-on from Waukesha was a consensus first-team pick.  He finished the regular season second in forced fumbles with five, third in the Big Ten in sacks with 9 1/2 and third in tackles for loss with 18 1/2.

Badger safety Michael Caputo was a consensus second-team pick after finishing the regular season fourth on the team in tackles with 58.  He has two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Linebacker Vince Biegel was a consensus third-team pick.  Biegel has eight sacks, 14 tackles for loss and is third on the team in tackles with 64.

Wisconsin finished the regular season number-one nationally in scoring defense (13.1 points per game) and number three in total defense (267.1 yards per game).

Offensive player awards are set to be named Tuesday.
