The president of the Islamic Center of the Twin Ports said Wednesday that Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen called him to confirm he is working to book a flight to Duluth to attend a dinner at the center on Saturday.

Ibrahim Al Qudah told KDAL  that the mayor “is all positive. He’s looking forward to meeting the Muslim community, and he’s looking forward to mend the situation and whatever hard feelings some people might have as a result of those comments or remarks on Facebook.”

Al Qudah was asked what he plans to say first to the Mayor.

“I just want to say welcome,” Al Qudah said. “What I really would like to acheive from this is just to show everybody else who we really are. It’s not about winning and fighting and arguing and ‘who’s going to win the debate.’ Not at all.”

He said the point of the dinner with Hagen is to highlight that people of different faiths all belong to one community, and to address differences and attempt to resolve conflict through conversation.
