The number-one ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team will stay that way for another week after sweeping third ranked Minnesota.

The Badgers completed the two-game sweep with a 3-1 win over the Gophers on Saturday afternoon, the first time the Gophers have been swept in a series in five years.

The Badgers (18-0) got strong play in goal from Ann-Renee Desbiens, who stopped 23 shots.

Sophomore Annie Pankowski scored twice for the Badgers and Sarah Nurse added an empty net goal in the closing seconds.

Minnesota came in as the defending national champions and the top scoring team in the country.

Wisconsin hits the road Friday to play a weekend series against North Dakota in Grand Forks.
