Top Ranked Badgers sweep WCHA weekly awards

December 9, 2015 By Bill Scott

Motion WFor the first time since the 2010-11 season, the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team swept the WCHA weekly honors.

Sophomore Annie Pankowski was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.  Junior Ann-Renee Desbiens was honored as the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Sam Cogan earned WCHA Rookie of the Week, following Wisconsin’s sweep of Border Battle rival Minnesota last weekend.

Pankowski scored three goals, including a pair of game-winners, during the No. 1 Badgers’ sweep of No. 3 Minnesota at LaBahn Arena.  Pankowski’s three goals were the most in the WCHA last weekend and she extended her point-streak to 21, which is the fifth-longest streak in program history.

Desbiens held the high-powered Gopher offense to only three goals during the weekend.

Cogan scored and added an assist in UW’s 3-2 win on Friday.

The Badgers hit the road  this weekend to take on No. 9 North Dakota in a Friday/Saturday series in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
