Winter winds knock out power to thousands in Wisconsin

December 24, 2015 By Andrew Beckett

Nearly 15,000 electric customers in Wisconsin were left without power overnight, after a cold front moving into the state brought strong winds sweeping across the state.

Wisconsin Public Service reported almost 8,400 customers were left without service, with nearly half of them in the Merrill and Rhinelander areas. As of four this morning, We Energies had almost 3,900 still out of service in the Milwaukee area.
Wind gusts of more than 50 miles an hour were recorded from Washington Island in Door County to Waukesha.

The National Weather Service still has wind advisories in effect until noon for portions of central and northeastern Wisconsin.
