College basketball roundup

Green Bay Phoenix logo 2The Green Bay Phoenix improved to 3-0 in the Horizon League, knocking off Cleveland State 87-67 in Cleveland on Thursday night.

The Phoenix made a season-high eleven three-pointers.  Reserve forward Turner Botz led the way with a career high 20 points as the Phoenix shot 52% and improved to 10-5.

Panthers win

The Milwaukee Panthers won at Youngstown State 81-65, improving to 2-1 in Horizon League play and 11-5 overall.

Panthers’ junior guard Akeem Springs scored a career-high 33 points as he made 14-of-18 shots, including four from three-point range.

Horizon League women

The Green Bay never trailed, winning their 9th straight, 66-45 at Cleveland State.  The Phoenix forced a season-high 26 turnovers, 17 of which were steals, as they improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League.

The Milwaukee Panthers fell to 0-2 in league play.  Kelsea Newman hit a fadeaway shot at the buzzer to give Youngstown State a 69-67 win over the Panthers.

Badger women fall

In the Big Ten, Kahleah Cooper had 19 points and 13 rebounds in a Rutgers home victory over Wisconsin, 61-41.  The Scarlet Knights broke it open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Badgers 17-6.  Wisconsin fell to 1-2 in conference play.
