DePaul picks up first Big East win

January 21, 2016 By Bill Scott

MarquetteGoldenEagles2The DePaul Blue Demons picked up their first Big East win of the season, knocking off the Marquette Golden Eagles 57-56 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

DePaul’s Billy Garrett Jr. tied the game with a hard drive to the basket with 1.1 seconds left and was fouled on the play.  Garrett made the free throw to give the Blue Demons the 1-point victory.

The loss was the third in a row for Marquette (12-7, 2-5 Big East).  The win for DePaul (7-12, 1-6) snapped their six-game losing streak.

Marquette struggled down the stretch, at one point turning the ball over on five of six possessions.

Garrett scored all of his points in the second half and finished with 14.  Myke Henry led DePaul with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Duane Wilson scored 19 for Marquette.  The Golden Eagles shot 63-percent in the second half but still lost the game.
