A black lab found zipped up in a duffel bag in a wildlife area is on the road to recovery.
The Columbia County Humane Society’s Susan Bratcher says Misty has gained almost two pounds since her arrival at the shelter last week. Still, Bratcher says she’s very lean at this time and needs nutrition, noting that “there’s very little muscle mass to the dog. If you were to pet her you can feel her backbone, her hip bones, and her rib cage.”
Misty was discovered by some hunters last Thursday. She was severely underweight, and had a major head wound and large tumor.
Her owner, 56-year-old Terri Lynn Benson of Pardeeville, has been arrested and is due in court today on charges of mistreating an animal.
