The Green Bay Phoenix women extended their winning streak to 13 games with an 81-73 win at Northern Kentucky on Thursday night and moved into first place all by themselves in the Horizon League.
With the game tied at 52 going into the fourth quarter, the Phoenix sealed the win by making eleven free throws down the stretch. The free throws came at the right time because Green Bay hit only 13 of 23 free throw attempts. Northern Kentucky was 18 of 20 from the charity stripe.
Allie LeClaire scored 16 points and Jessica Lindstrom had 15 points and ten rebounds as the Phoenix improved to 16-2 overall and 6-0 in Horizon League play.
The Phoenix grabbed first place by themselves after Wright State lost in Dayton to the Milwaukee Panthers, 82-60. The Raiders fell to 5-1, a game behind Green Bay, with those two teams set to battle in Dayton on Saturday.
The Panthers outscored Wright State 43-16 in the second-and-third quarters to pull away.
Steph Kostowicz had 20 points and nine rebounds for Milwaukee as the Panthers won their fourth straight to improve to 4-2 in Horizon League play.
Wright State lost at home for just the second time this season.
