Women’s basketball roundup

MarquetteGoldenEagles2The Marquette Golden Eagles captured their second Big East Conference win, rolling to a 80-64 win over Butler in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Freshman Allazia Blockton scored 17 of her 18 points in the second half for Marquette.  Natisha Hiedeman added 17 points and Erika Davenport scored 16 as the Golden Eagles improved to 7-11 overall, 2-5 in the Big East Conference.

The Golden Eagles entered halftime with a lead for the first time in conference play, holding a 32-27 advantage.

Marquette shot 49.2% (32-65) from the field, including a red hot 57.1% (20-35) in the second half.  The Golden Eagles return home to open a four-game homestand starting Friday against Providence.

Badgers fall

In Big Ten action, the Wisconsin Badgers fell to Illinois 71-65 in Champaign, Illinois on Sunday.

Wisconsin fell behind 10-0 and didn’t score until Nicole Bauman hit a three-pointer with 5:25 left in the first quarter.  Bauman finished with 17 points, but while the Badgers hit 18 of 23 free throws (78.3%), they managed to shoot just 36.8% (21-57) from the field.

The Illini ended a 8-game losing streak.
