Marquette’s upset bid falls short

February 7, 2016 By Bill Scott

MarquetteGoldenEagles2The Marquette Golden Eagles led most of the game on Saturday, giving sixth-ranked Xavier all they wanted before falling 90-82 in Big East action.

Marquette had their chances to win at Xavier for the first time, but the Musketeers got hot in the final four minutes and took advantage of three critical Golden Eagle turnovers.

Freshman Henry Ellenson led Marquette (15-9, 4-7 Big East) with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Freshman guard Haanif Cheatham scored 21 points in 21 minutes.

The Golden Eagles shot 55-percent from the field and made nine-of-17 three-pointers.
