Wisconsin elk herd being added to

February 29, 2016 By Bob Hague

More elk are headed to Wisconsin. Forty more elk have been trapped in Kentucky, in a second effort to create a sizable herd in west central Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the newly-trapped animals will be quarantined before being moved to Black River State Forest in Jackson County.

Twenty-six elk were placed there area last year, but 11 have died. It’s part of a long-running effort to re-introduce elk to Wsconsin. A herd was established in Ashland County two decades ago.
