Bail set at $1 million in Marathon County murder

March 10, 2016 By WRN Contributor

Prosecutors say a rural Wausau man texted a woman with whom he was having an affair the day before he fatally shot his wife of 42 years. Sixty-two year old Mark Sturm is scheduled to return to Marathon County Circuit Court next Wednesday, when a judge will decide whether to order a trial on charges of homicide, resisting police, and bail jumping.

The body of Sturm’s 62-year-old wife Patricia was found in her bed on February 28th. According to the criminal complaint, Mark Sturm claimed she committed suicide but evidence in the bedroom indicated otherwise. The criminal complaint shows Sturm was pursuing an affair with another woman who didn’t want anything to do with him as long as he was still married. Prosecutor Kyle Mayo said the high bond is due to a concern over flight risk with Sturm.
