After Scott Tolzien paid a visit to the Indianapolis Colts facilities on Friday, the Green Bay Packers free agent signed a two-year deal to be Andrew Luck’s backup.
The Packers were ready to give second-year quarterback Brett Hundley an opportunity to compete with Tolzien for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers.
Hundley posted a 129.6 passer rating during his first exhibition season, throwing for 630 yards and seven touchdowns with only one interception.
Tolzien drew interest from the Colts and Chicago Bears among other teams.
In six NFL games, Tolzien completed 56 of 91 passes for 721 yards and a touchdown with five interceptions. His career passer rating is 67.1.
Tolzien started 26 games for the Wisconsin Badgers in college, completing 68% of his passes for 5,271 yards, 32 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
He went undrafted but signed out of college with the Chargers as a free agent.
