Gennett placed on DL

April 28, 2016 By Bill Scott

Brewers logoMilwaukee Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a slight oblique strain.  Brewers manager Craig Counsell expects Counsell to miss about three weeks.

To replace Gennett, the Brewers purchased the contract of infielder Hernan Perez from Class “AAA” Colorado Springs.  They made room on the 40-man roster for Perez by transferring right-hander Matt Garza from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

Gennett suffered the injury during his final round of batting practice Tuesday afternoon and was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday.  He returned to Milwaukee to be examined by team physician William Raasch, and the decision was made to place him on the DL.  Perez was hitting .339 in 16 games at Colorado Springs.
