A long-time member of the state Senate will face a primary challenge from another lawmaker.
State Representative Mandela Barnes (D-Milwaukee) says he will run against Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) in a Democratic primary later this year.
In a press release, Barnes said he believes the people of the district deserve new leadership that they can trust. “Now more than ever, we need fresh, transformational leadership with a vision to not only address our serious challenges, but also unlock our untapped potential. As State Senator, I will fight for a vision that ensures the best public education for our children, curbs the tragic and senseless epidemic of gun violence, and builds ladders of opportunity for our neighbors to thrive and succeed in life.”
Taylor has represented the 4th state Senate District since 2004, which includes portions of Milwaukee and three suburbs. Barnes currently represents the 11th Assembly District, where he was first elected in 2012.
