Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt turned the tables on scammers this week, by calling back a number left in an automated call claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.
The first person who answered was a woman who answered IRS, but got curt with Schmidt and hung up when he began asking questions. On a second try the Sheriff got a surprisingly honest and – up to a point – helpful man. Schmidt identified himself as a Sheriff and asked if he had reached the IRS.

“No, this is a scam,” the man replied. Further questioning revealed the man was at a call center in Afghanistan and is named Mohamed Ali.
Schmidt then asked the man why he was doing this. The man said it was a job and admitted they were stealing money from people before hanging up.
Schmidt says the real IRS will not call you if you owe them money.
