Governor Walker approves rules for unemployment drug screening

May 5, 2016 By WRN Contributor

If you lose your job, you might have to pass a drug test to get unemployment benefits.

New rules approved by Governor Scott Walker on Wednesday are designed to carry out the requirement for drug screenings that majority Republican lawmakers approved last year as part of the current state budget.

Most applicants for jobless benefits will fill out questionnaires in the initial drug screening process — and those who don’t meet the screening standards will have to take drug tests. Those who fail the tests would have to get tax-funded treatment, and can collect unemployment benefits as long as they comply.
