UW-La Crosse scored six times in the bottom of the first inning to wipe out a one-run deficit to knock off UW-Whitewater in the WIAC title game at Copeland Park in La Crosse.
Senior outfielder Taylor Kohlwey, who started the day hitting .284, ripped a three-run homer in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 45 games. Kohlwey hit for the cycle and finished 4 for 5 with four rbi and three runs scored, raising his average to .497.
Kohlwey’s hitting streak started last season and is the 3rd longest in Division 3 history.
The Eagles (34-8), who finished as division 3 runner-up last season will host an NCAA Regional and will open play Wednesday against Midwest Conference Champion Beloit college.
Whitewater received an at large bid and will take on Westminster of Missouri at Webster College on Wednesday in the Central Regional.
The regional winners will advance to the NCAA Division 3 College World Series at Fox Cities Stadium in the Fox Cities starting May 27th.
