Milwaukee girl dies after being hit by stray gunfire

May 17, 2016 By WRN Contributor

A nine-year-old Milwaukee girl has died after she was hit by a stray bullet while watching TV in her home.

Za’Layia Jenkins had been hospitalized since May 5th, after she was struck by a bullet fired by two groups exchanging gunfire outside of her family’s home on Milwaukee’s north side. Officers later recovered more than 40 shell casings from the scene of the shooting.

The Milwaukee County Medical examiner said the nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead Monday evening, just a day before her tenth birthday.

No suspects are in custody.
