The last time the city of Oshkosh had pro basketball was back in 1987. The Wisconsin Flyers disbanded then.
According to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report, Windward Wealth Strategies, an Oshkosh wealth management firm is trying to change that. They are competing against other Midwestern cities to land a Milwaukee Bucks affiliate team.
Windward would need to build a 3,500-seat arena for the team. The group is currently analyzing different locations for a new arena and is expected to submit plans by the end of June. The project could go higher than $4-million but would be funded entirely with private money.
There are currently 22 D-League teams. Only eight of the NBA’s current teams, including the Bucks, will be without a D-League team.
Last season, the Bucks assigned players to other clubs’ D-League affiliates. They’re hoping to have their own team by the fall of 2017.
