Suspect fatally shot by Wausau police officer

May 1, 2016 By WRN Contributor

One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Wausau over the weekend.

Police responded to an apartment complex Saturday night, after receiving a report about a domestic disturbance. The suspect was located after a search of the area, with the man escaping into the locked apartment complex.

Police said an officer found the man while trying to get in to the building, and the suspect then resisted arrest by attacking the officer with a knife. The officer fired multiple shots, hitting and killing the suspect.

The names of the officer and the suspect have not been released. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave and the Department of Justice has taken over the investigation.
