Two killed in fiery Rock County crash

May 23, 2016 By WRN Contributor

Two men were killed and a woman injured in a head-on, two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office reports a white Pontiac Sunfire driven by a 27-year-old Madison man, with a 26-year-old passenger from Fitchburg was traveling north on Highway 14 near West Butts Corners Roads about 3:30 when the driver lost control and slid into oncoming traffic.

Investigators say a white Traverse driven by a 36-year-old Janesville woman crashed into the Sunfire’s passenger side.

The Sunfire caught on fire, and both occupants were pinned inside. First responders extinguished the flames and attempted medical treatment, but both victims pronounced dead at the scene.

The Janesville woman was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The highway was closed for more than five hours in both directions as the scene was cleared and the crash was reconstructed.
