Wisconsin unemployment rate fell to 4.4 percent in April

May 19, 2016 By Andrew Beckett

The state Department of Workforce Development says Wisconsin’s unemployment rate dropped last month.

Preliminary figures released by the DWD show the statewide unemployment rate in April fell to 4.4 percent, down from 4.5 percent in March of this year and 4.6 percent during the same month in 2015. It’s more than a half point below the national rate for April, which was at five percent.

The agency also pointed to new quarterly data, which shows the state had a 12 month gain of more than 35,000 private sector jobs through December of last year.
