Madison firefighters battle recycling plant fire

June 2, 2016 By WRN Contributor

The Madison Fire Department were working throughout Wednesday night to extinguish a fire at a recycling plant.

Crews were dispatched to All Metals Recycling on South Park Street around 4:10 Wednesday afternoon on reports of an explosion. Witnesses reported feeling buildings shake and hearing a loud explosion.

Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis says the fire is contained to a pile of cars about thirty feet high and thirty to forty feet in diameter behind the building. A crane is attempting to pull the pile of cars apart for fire crews to attack small fires throughout the car pile.

The Madison Police Department along with Public Health Madison and Dane County are monitoring surrounding neighborhoods for smoke levels and monitoring air quality.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
