Police say Appleton officer acted appropriately

June 8, 2016 By WRN Contributor

Officer Stephanie Wiener, Marcus Felton (Appleton Police Department).

An Appleton police officer followed her training, when a suspect attacked her, and took her gun.

That’s what Green Bay police determined, after a review of the May 28th incident.

Lt. Gary Richgels says Officer Stephanie Wiener spotted a shoplifting suspect walking along Kensington Drive, around midnight. He says from her squad car, Wiener told 23-year-old Marcus Felton to stop, and eventually he approached her in a threatening way.

Richgels says Wiener got out of her car, and he kept advancing, so she tried to use her Taser on him. After a struggle, he says Felton overpowered Wiener, took the gun, and shot her in the hip.

He says Good Samaritan Andrew Maltbey tried to pull Felton off of Wiener, during the struggle for the gun. The 23-year-old Maltbey was shot in the upper chest. Felton then shot and killed himself.

Wiener and Maltbey were released from a hospital several days later.
