Driver killed at Manitowoc Speedway

August 25, 2016 By WRN Contributor

A 27-year-old driver was killed in a crash during a heat race at the Manitowoc Speedway. It happened Wednesday night during the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Racing event at the county fair.

Police say the driver from Manitowoc County slammed into an infield guardrail. EMTs removed the car’s roof to extricate the driver, who died later at a hospital.

No one else was hurt, although there were track staffers close by in the infield area — and racing was stopped for about 45 minutes so repairs could be made on the track. An autopsy is scheduled for the driver, whose name was not immediately released.
