Governor Scott Walker is asking most state agencies to hold the line on spending in their budget requests, and also plans to seek an extension of a tuition freeze for the University of Wisconsin System.

In a letter sent to agency heads last week, the governor called for a continued focus on delivering a smaller and more efficient state government, and asked most agencies to keep their spending plans at the same level as they were for the current biennium. Walker indicated he plans to direct any savings at K-12 education, and will also look to extend a tuition freeze for the UW System that’s been in place for the last two budgets.

Agency budget requests are due September 15th, while Walker will unveil his proposed budget early next year.
