Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson said he doesn’t expect to play this Thursday night when they close out exhibition play at Kansas City.  But Nelson does expect to get his first team reps in practice this week.

Nelson hasn’t taken a team rep in practice since suffering a season ending knee injury in the Packers’ second preseason game at Pittsburgh last season.

Nelson’s goal all along was to be ready to play in the Sept. 11 opener at Jacksonville.  He has gone through warmups before each of the last two preseason games.

It’s been a long time since Nelson last played in a meaningful game.  He said Sunday that he expects to feel the nerves heading into his first real game.

The regular season opener is less than two weeks away.  The excitement level is starting to climb, although Nelson said he’s trying to make sure he doesn’t overdo it on that front.
