Cichy named Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week

Wisconsin Badger junior inside linebacker Jack Cichy has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following a career performance in Saturday’s 30-23 overtime loss to Ohio State.

Cichy finished with a career-high 15 tackles, including 11 solo stops.  he recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and forced fumble.  It was part of an effort that saw Wisconsin hold a Buckeyes offense that entered the game averaging 52.3 points a game to just 23 in regulation.

Cichy is a former walk-on.  He leads the Badgers with 50 total tackles and ranks second on the team with 7.0 TFL’s on the year.  He ranks eighth in the Big Ten this season, averaging 8.33 tackles a game.

Cichy and the Badgers rank number-nine in the FBS in scoring defense at 15.2 points a game.  The Badgers also rank 12th in total defense, allowing 311.3 yards a game.
