Ten western Wisconsin counties, pounded by torrential rains and flooding in September, have been declared federal disaster areas.
The FEMA declaration covers Adams, Chippewa, Clark, Crawford, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, and Vernon counties.
Governor Scott Walker is calling the federal assistance “a welcome relief” as local governments work to repair roads and other damage to public infrastructure. Walker had requested the declaration also cover Eau Claire and Trempealeau counties, but those two counties did not sustain enough damage to qualify.
