For the second time in as many weeks, a Wisconsin men’s hockey player has earned a Big Ten star of the week. Last week, defenseman Corbin McGuire earned the third star of the week. This week, freshman forward Trent Frederic was awarded the Big Ten’s second star.
The St. Louis, Missouri native earned second star honors for his four-point performance in Sunday’s series finale against Boston College. The freshman scored one goal and added three assists in the Badgers 8-5 loss. He became the first Badger to score four points in a game this season.
The high-scoring weekend for Frederic moved him into a tie with Seamus Malone for the team points lead with six through four games. He scored the game winning goal against Northern Michigan on Oct. 8 and opened the scoring for UW on Oct. 16 against BC.
Frederic was drafted 29th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL entry draft.
The Badgers are back on home ice on Friday night when they host the U.S. Under-18 team in exhibition play.
