Vehicle miles traveled in Wisconsin hit an all-time record last year.

Drivers traveled 62.1 billion miles on Wisconsin roads in 2015, an increase of nearly 2.1 billion miles compared to 2014 and the largest annual percentage jump in vehicle miles traveled in 17 years.

The state DOT attributes the increase to factors including a strengthening economy, growing population, lower gas prices and continued growth in commercial motor vehicle traffic. The increase in Wisconsin is consistent with national trends.
