A relatively safe season for Wisconsin deer hunters

For the third straight year, Wisconsin saw no fatalities during the nine-day gun deer hunting season that ended over the weekend.

Department of Natural Resources warden Jeremy Cords says there were five non-fatal shootings during the season, which is slightly below average for the past eight years.

Cords says two of this year’s shootings involved hunters accidentally shooting themselves in the leg, while two others happened during deer drives in Taylor County. In Oconto County, a 16-year-old accidentally shot a 14-year-old hunter in the leg while they were walking into the woods.
