State Senator Scott Fitzgerald will remain the top Republican in the state Senate.
The senator from Juneau was re-elected Majority Leader Thursday by fellow Republicans, marking the fifth consecutive session he has been the GOP leader for the chamber. Brookfield Republican Leah Vukmir will again serve as assistant majority leader, while Roger Roth of Appleton was name Senate President. Roth replaces Mary Lazich, who did not seek re-election this fall.
Senate Democrats have postponed their leadership elections, pending the outcome of current Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling’s race in the 32nd District. The La Crosse lawmaker has only a narrow lead over challenger Dan Kapanke, which could result in a recount.
