Martinez out 2 to 4 weeks

The Green Bay Packers may be forced to move Clay Matthews back to inside linebacker after losing rookie starter Blake Martinez.

Martinez is expected to miss two to four weeks with an MCL sprain to his left knee, an injury that he suffered late in the Packers 42-24 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

The Packers finished the game Sunday with Joe Thomas and Carl Bradford manning the inside.  Bradford has just been signed off of the practice squad earlier in the week.

Matthews played inside linebacker all of last season, so it makes sense that he would be best suited to make the switch for Monday night’s game against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy declined to discuss Jake Ryan’s availability for this weeks game.  Ryan left the team on Monday to attend to a personal matter and hadn’t yet been re-evaluated.

The Packers on Tuesday, signed linebacker Derrick Mathews to their practice squad.
