Slain sheriff’s deputy laid to rest

November 4, 2016 By WRN Contributor

Funeral services were held in Cameron on Friday for a slain Rusk County Sheriff’s Deputy. Thirty three year-old Dan Glaze was found fatally shot last Saturday night, shortly after stopping to investigate a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch lost contact with Glaze and, when backup arrived on the scene, he was found dead from a gunshot wound.

The death sparked a manhunt for 43-year-old Doug Nitek of Conrath, who turned himself in.

Glaze had been with the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department for about a year and a half, and had previously served as police officer in Hayward. A crowd estimated at more than 1,500 people turned out Thursday night in Ladysmith for a candlelight vigil honoring Glaze, the married father of three young children.
