The state has provided $260,000 to Orion Energy Systems in Manitowoc for further development of its “distributed renewable power system.” Orion Chief Executive Officer Neal Verfuerth said the system uses patented technologies which combine light pipes, photovoltaic and urban wind. “This is all about good business,” said Verfuerth. “This is truly bridging that gap between environmental stewardship and capitalism.”

Kevin Crawford, vice president of government affairs for Orion, said when the sun is directed into Orion’s Manitowoc plant, the plant is producing enough energy to run the facility. State Commerce Secretary Aaron Oliver said a total $1.3 investnment will result in 220 retained jobs and a showcase for Orion’s products.
