Day 1 of the 2010 NFL Draft kicks off tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
The Green Bay Packers are armed with 8 selections, starting with the 23rd pick in the first round tonight. The questions are many. Will Ted Thompson used the 23rd pick and if so, who will he select? Will Thompson trade down fore more picks, or will he trade up?
Ted Thompson traded up in 2009 and it worked like a charm, selecting U.S.C. linebacker Clay Matthews. Matthews ended up registering double digit sacks in his rookie season.
If the Packers do go up, it’ll likely be for an offensive tackle that has dropped into the Packers trade range. The Packers aren’t going to panic if those top tackles are taken early. There’s plenty of other needs for the Packers at that point, including a pass rushing linebacker to replace Aaron Kampman or a cover corner.
This is the first year for the new draft lineup. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on Friday with rounds 4 through 7 kicking off on Saturday morning.
**I’ll be at Lambeau Field tonight and will provide coverage via this blog. Coverage will include information on the Packers progress as well as reaction from the coaches. It all starts at 6:30pm central time.
